How to vote in DC (the District of Columbia)!

Step 1. Are you eligible to vote?

Can you answer YES to the following?

If so, you are eligible to vote in DC!
  • I'm a US citizen
  • I'll be at least 18 years old by the next General Election
  • I'm a resident of DC (and have been for at least 30 days prior to the election)
  • I do NOT claim voting residence outside of DC
  • I'm NOT in jail for a felony conviction
  • I have NOT have been found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote
Step 2. Check your voter registration ONLINE! (Click here.)

Step 3. If you need to, register or fix your registration ONLINE! (Click here.)

Step 4. Request a Mail-in Ballot (a.k.a. Absentee Ballot). (Click here.)

OR, if you prefer to vote in person, ask when and where you can Vote Early (before Election Day). This will help you avoid crowds.

Step 5. If you requested a Mail-in Ballot: When it arrives, read the instructions carefully. Complete and return!
